A Beacon of Faith & Service
Since its inception, EIC has been more than just a place of worship. It has evolved into a dynamic center for community engagement, offering a wide range of services and programs to cater to the diverse needs of its members and the surrounding community.
Our masjid journey
From the first parcel of land in 1989 through groundbreaking in 2012 and years of construction to the campus we share today — the story of Evergreen Islamic Center.
The Beginning
Community members recognized the growing need for a mosque in the Evergreen area and acquired a parcel of land nestled within the beautiful hills of Evergreen, San Jose. Prayers and programs followed as fundraising and planning continued.
Groundbreaking
After years of community discussions and planning, the community committed to building a new masjid for a growing Evergreen. Groundbreaking took place in June 2012, masha'Allah.

Foundation & steel
The site was prepared for a multi-year build. The foundation was poured and work on the steel structure began — two of the most critical milestones for the project.
Structure rises
Steel structure and concrete work were completed. Work began on covering the exposed steel — a long, costly step that tested the community's patience. Alhamdulillah, with continued support we persevered.
The masjid takes shape
We started the year with a shell; by year's end the masjid had taken its final shape. Most exterior work was completed, including metal, roofing, stucco, tile, and paint.
Inside and out
Construction advanced inside and outside in parallel. Walls, ceilings, windows, and doors brought the interior to life — a significant step toward the goal, alhamdulillah.
Ramadan in our new home
A temporary certificate of occupancy allowed daily salah and Ramadan in the new facility. Both Eid prayers were held here, and an initial parking phase added 50 new spaces on the premises.
Parking and comfort
Focus shifted to the community experience: parking for roughly 150 vehicles, a basement kitchenette and sheetrock for Ramadan, and HVAC installation with PG&E connection.
Safety and community spaces
Parking lot lighting, security cameras, mezzanine pavers, a youth basketball court, and basement completion made the campus safer and more welcoming for families.
Continued support
Alhamdulillah, the community's ongoing financial support carried the project forward through arduous, multi-month tasks. We ask for du'a for safe, smooth completion of the work ahead.
Finishing the exterior
With deep gratitude for continued generosity, work continues on framing, decking, stucco, doors, windows, and fire sprinklers.
A Thriving Community Hub
Evergreen Islamic Center today boasts approximately 40,000 sq ft of worship space and a large community hall on a 2.2-acre campus — the first mosque built ground-up in the San Francisco South Bay Area.

We have collected construction photos and video over the years to share this journey with our community. View photos · Watch video · Support construction
