Biography

Imam Tahir Anwar is an American Muslim scholar and preacher. Born in London, England, he has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1983. After completing his religious studies, he has served the Bay Area Muslim community since 2000.

Teaching & education

Imam Tahir teaches Islamic Law at Zaytuna College in Berkeley, America's first Muslim liberal arts college. He is also a founding board member of Averroes High School, the Bay Area's first Muslim high school, where he has helped shape Islamic education for young people in the region.

Community & public service

He chairs the board of NISA (North-American Islamic Shelter for the Abused), an organization that works to alleviate domestic violence and support families in crisis. He has a long record of civic engagement, including more than five years on the Human Rights Commission for the City of San Jose and service on the Human Relations Commission for Santa Clara County.

At EIC, Imam Tahir provides religious leadership for the community, including guidance on worship, family life, and seasonal programs. He leads an annual Hajj group and offers Nikah services locally in the Bay Area and across the United States when his schedule allows.
